Infertility Counseling Services
Therapy in Philadelphia, Ocean City, Mechanicsville & Santa Fe
Biological parenthood is often described as being one of the most important, transformative and meaningful of human experiences. The ability to create and nurture the life of another has the power to provide a sense of purpose, create a feeling of deep belonging and fulfillment, and connect you in a vital and lasting way with another. It is therefore no surprise that a diagnosis of infertility can be devastating. Facing the prospect of not being able to become a biological parent, one can feel a profound sense of loss, alienation, jealousy, confusion, guilt, shame, rage, and numbness.
At the Center for Growth, we understand the many ways in which infertility can impact your life and sense of well-being and we are here to help. Our therapists and counselors are trained to help you explore feelings of depression, anxiety, grief and loss that frequently accompany fertility struggles. We are also equipped to help you address other issues and concerns related to infertility, including but not limited to:
Fertility treatment (IUI, IVF, surrogacy, donor egg, egg freezing)
Miscarriage
Adoption and/or fostering
Relationship counseling
LGBTQIA+ family planning
Sex therapy
Our clinicians utilize evidence-based therapy and treatment modalities to help those struggling with infertility, including but not limited to: Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).
What To Expect In Therapy: Every person experiencing infertility has their own story to tell. Expect your therapist to want to learn about the path you've been on, when and how it began, the twists and turns that you've faced, the hopes you've felt, and the losses you carry. While your therapist won't be able to remove the painful feelings, they will be very interested in helping you experience them with greater trust, ease and acceptance. Expect to tell your therapist what you want out of therapy. If you’re unsure as to what you want, that’s okay, be honest about your uncertainty, your therapist is there to help you discover it together. Expect support and validation of your experience. Expect that your therapist may wish to explore with you what hopes might lie on the other side of this loss - what brings you a deep sense of meaning and purpose. Expect to imagine new possibilities for your life, informed by what you are going through right now.
We understand the gravity of an infertility diagnosis and the struggle to conceive. One can feel robbed of a fundamental human experience. We believe that within every loss and life challenge there is a path that can lead toward growth, peace and well-being, and we are here to help you discover that path.
